Knowledge is power. Never more appropriate is this phrase than when applied to ecological matters: quite simply, you can't help if you don't know how; if you work blind-folded you may end-up causing more damage than good, no matter how benevolent the intentions.

Having said that, one of the keys to ensuring a future for lemurs and, indeed, Madagascar's immense biodiversity, is more research intro the intricate relationships within the island's unique ecosystems.

The direct protection of remaining habitat is, of course, unquestionably necessary, which need not imply the halt of human development or economic growth, but it does mean that such activities must be planned out with nature in mind and managed responsibly.
